Project Type: Visual Identity - Music Newsletter
Role: Art Director, Illustrator
Scope: Logo design, custom typography, modular headers, graphic assets for recurring use
Nightswimming is a music newsletter rooted in deep listening, cultural reference, and emotional storytelling. I developed a visual identity system that translates that reverential tone into a scalable, evolving format.
The Goal was to create something that feels embedded in music culture - not just adjacent to it.
Nightswimming, first & foremost, is created by music fans for music fans.
The Challenge was not just to design a visually appealing logo…
But to create an identity system that could hold layered cultural references, and evolve alongside the author’s needs over time.
Rather than designing a fixed identity, I focused on building a flexible system based on a visual language inspired by core tenants of Nightswimming’s voice:
referential
humor
emotional
sincerity
cultural
specificity
The result was a collage-driven visual identity system rooted in DIY print culture.
By combining custom typography, cultural sampling, and lo-fi textures, I produced a suite of expressive, modular graphics designed to be utilized across the brand’s different platforms.
